Principal Walsh needs YOUR input! Survey on being a “Red Devil”

Eonju HwangNews

Principal Walsh seeks your input in his effort to identify and target a strong school community identity and voice. The core question is…..what does it mean to be a Hinsdale Central High School Red Devil?

Here is some relevant explanation and background regarding this campaign: The last several years has been a trying time, we have been through so much as a community of Red Devils. Through my observations this year, I believe we may have strayed the path of our Red Devil identity. Our students from the classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 lost opportunities to pass on traditions and what it is to be a Red Devil. Additionally, 31+ staff will be retiring in the next several years. 31+ staff who have a rich understanding of the fire and passion that lives in our hallways, classrooms, athletic fields and in our activities. Therefore before the school year comes to an end, I am embarking on an exercise in finding our true identity. There is an old proverb that says “A bird doesn’t sing because it has the answer . . . it sings because it has a song.” Together let us identify our song, our identity.

This is NOT an attempt to alter the mascot or change school colors, rather an opportunity to work together as a team to define core values, belief systems and a common school spirit.

Principal Walsh has created a foundational team of students and staff, and will be looking for a few parents and alumni to embark on finding the true Red Devil identity. If you are interested in being on this stakeholder team, please email him your interest. A stakeholder meeting may be scheduled in late May or early June. Thank you in advance for answering the following survey questions and sharing your thoughts on “what it means to be a Red Devil”.

Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability based on your Red Devil experiences and thank you for sharing your voice.

Being a PTO Volunteer Empowers All–We need YOU!

Eonju HwangNews

Dear Central Parents,

At our last PTO meeting, a long-time and extremely dedicated committee chair shared a heartfelt, personal story about what being a PTO volunteer meant to her. Her story focused on how her involvement made her understand and navigate the vast high school environment better, fostered a more  empathetic relationship with her child while creating collaborative relationships with the school and other parents.

The PTO serves as a BRIDGE for the school and home environment. Your involvement strengthens those connections! Committee descriptions and emails at https://hcpto.org/get-involved/ .  Open committee roles for next year:

  1. Vice President of PTO (Executive Board position). Contact Kristin McDaniel at president@hcpto.org if interested.
  2. Communications
  3. Make a Difference Committee
  4. Red Devil Scholarship Committee

Some of these opportunities have minimal time commitments. Please reach out to the committee chairs with any questions.

Kind Regards,

Hinsdale Central Executive Team
