The College Planning Workshop has helped hundreds of Hinsdale Central Parents and Students. The optional interviews provide students real-life, first-hand experience in preparation for a future interview with an Admissions Rep, College Alum, Coach or College Department Chair. Following each interview, the student and an interview observer will review the interview, discuss, and practice strategies for improvement.
The Hinsdale Central PTO and Guidance Department co-host this event for junior students and their parents.
The Workshop’s objective is to provide Juniors the opportunity to participate in one-on-one mock interviews. The students’ interviews are video taped on the student’s phone or tablet, so students can check out for themselves how they did in the process including: answering questions, posture, and body language.
Students will also participate in 4 breakout sessions focused on the college application process. The breakout sessions, delivered by college admissions and alumni representatives, include:
- College Applications, from the Perspective of a College Admissions Rep
- Application Essays – Take a Deep Breath
- A Student’s Journey – Finding the Right College Fit
- HCHS Senior Student Panel
The workshop also includes a 90-minute Parent Session. The session is delivered by a panel of HCHS parents and includes plenty of time for Q&A about the college application process.
The workshop fills up quickly so please register early to guarantee a spot. Registration opens in early January. Workshop materials will be provided to registered students in advance of the session.

The Community Speaker Series Liaison works with members of the community from D181 schools, D86 Administration and the D181 Foundation to coordinate 3-4 events per year.
The events are held at The Community House in Hinsdale and offer both an evening session and a morning session to allow for the largest audience.
Speakers are invited to discuss topics pertinent for high school parents, often with an open forum for discussion afterwards. Past topics have included drug and alcohol use, peer pressure, bullying and social and emotional learning.
EVENT DATES TBD
This PTO Committee hosts the incoming Freshman Parent Party at the Community House in early September of every school year. The party is an opportunity to mingle with other new Freshman parents and enjoy an evening of great food and beverages.
This is a great event to help kick off the school year and develop connections with other parents at Hinsdale Central.
This committee is comprised of volunteers responsible for the planning, organizing and implementing of this wonderful event. Committees for the event include food, beverage, decorations, set up, and guest bartending. Working on this committee allows you to meet new Freshman parents just as your son or daughter is beginning their Hinsdale Central years.
To Be Determined
The HC PTO hosts an evening with the Hinsdale Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association to provide information to our graduating senior women and parents. This event includes a panel of current sorority women as well as alumnae who will present and answer questions regarding the sorority recruitment process. All seniors who are considering sorority recruitment at their future colleges and universities will not want to miss this!
