Nicholas Epley: Mindwise – A Guide to Understanding the Minds of Others

You are a mind reader, born with an extraordinary ability to understand what others think, feel, believe, want and know. It’s a sixth sense you use each day in every professional and personal relationship—but how well do you really know what your coworkers, employees, competitors or customers want or are thinking? How good are you at knowing the minds of others? How well can you guess what others think of you, your business or your product? In this illuminating exploration of one of the great mysteries of the human mind, University of Chicago award-winning psychologist Nicholas Epley introduces audiences to what scientists have learned about our ability to understand the most complicated puzzle on the planet—other people—and the surprising mistakes we often make. Why are we sometimes blind to the minds of others? Why do we so routinely believe that others think, feel and want what we do, when in fact they do not? In his presentation modeled after his book, Mindwise, Epley will not turn other people into open books, but will give you the wisdom to revolutionize how you think about them—and yourself.

HC PTO is Giving Money to Seniors: Red Devil Spirit Scholarship

Sujit MenonNews

The Hinsdale Central PTO will award $10,000 worth of scholarships to selected graduating seniors to help them meet the expenses of their first year of college.  Depending on the number of qualified applicants for the Red Devil Spirit Scholarships, the PTO will award $1000 and/or $2000 scholarships to up to 10 individuals.
Candidates will be chosen based on financial need, involvement at HCHS and a typed 400-600 word personal statement describing what they love about being a Red Devil, what Red Devil characteristics they will bring with them to their college experience and how they will do so.
Applicants are not restricted as to the school they choose to attend, nor is there a minimum GPA requirement.  All applicants must be enrolled full time at the school of their choice to receive the scholarship.
Applications can be found in the Guidance office, as well as at this link.

The application deadline has been extended to Monday, March 22nd and winners will be announced at the Senior Scholarship ceremony on May 17th. Good luck!

NFHS Network via Hinsdale Central Boosters

Sujit MenonNews

March 21, 2021

Dear Hinsdale Central Families:

We are excited that sports have resumed at Hinsdale Central.  We are wrapping up the winter sports season and have begun our spring sports season.  While the IHSA has begun allowing spectators, the numbers are still limited.  Given these continued restrictions, the Hinsdale Central Booster Club was able to secure a special offer through NFHS for us to watch our Hinsdale Central home sports events.

If you are interested in using this NFHS Network to watch sports this spring/summer, please follow the link below to join the Boosters Club.  Hinsdale Central Boosters is a registered 501©3 charitable   parent-run organization.  The Club provides financial support to the arts, activities and athletics at Central through our annual grant programs.  There are three levels of membership for the Booster Club.  Once you join, please email me the snapshot of your membership receipt (with name, address, level of membership and order number) along with your request to access NFHS and I will assign you a key code and provide instructions.  Turnaround time can vary so if you plan ahead, we can get you up and ready to view before your next sporting event.

This option is a complimentary benefit of a Booster membership this year, due to COVID and the inability to have full spectator participation.  The membership is strictly for the 2020-2021 academic school year but given the uncertainty around “end dates” for the now labeled spring/summer sports, the membership will continue through our last school event for this academic year.  Going forward, we will re-evaluate whether we want to continue to offer this to our membership as an add-on gift choice for the 2021-2022 seasons.

www.theboosters.com

If you know of others that may wish to take advantage of this opportunity, please direct them to the Booster Club website to join Boosters.  They can then contact me for an NFHS membership, following the same steps of providing their copy of membership status and request to access NFHS.

While I am stating that we, Hinsdale Central, are providing the streaming/recording of the home athletics, it is up to the host school for our away games to participate (or not) in the same NFHS network programming.  If those schools do participate, your membership will allow streaming of those events as well.  If they do not, there may be Facebook Live streaming with details provided by the team coach prior to the event.

Here is an update on current sports and spectator provisions:

IDPH Mitigations
Outdoor Venues- 20% capacity of each venue maximum
Indoor Venues- 50 spectators total maximum
(All spectators must maintain a minimum of 12ft. away from all playing surfaces & players.)
