Join Operation Snowball’s Retreat

News

Would your child like a day away from responsibilities? Would your child like a great leadership opportunity and a day to let loose? If you answered yes to any of these questions, register your child for our 3-day retreat to Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort, IL.  We leave at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, and return around noon Saturday, November 12.

Operation Snowball is a districtwide program open to all South and Central students. This is one of the few after school activities that is a district event. Our mission is to empower student leaders through prevention education and leadership development so our students can create a positive impact. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved, meet new people, feel inspired, and have fun.

Registration forms are located in the Counseling Center in Room B101A or download the form HERE.

See Mrs. Cave or Mrs. Bruckner for details.

Due date for registration forms have been extended to Wednesday, October 12.

Does Your Child Need Mental Health, Learning or Behavioral Support?

Eonju HwangNews

The Parent List contains first-hand insight from D86, D181 and D63 parents about area providers that have helped address their child’s anxiety; depression; school avoidance; eating disorders; insomnia; peer relations; grief; stress; ADD/ADHD; autism spectrum and more.

The Parent List was created 7 years ago in response to the suicide of a local student with the goal of streamlining the process of and decreasing the stress around connecting with a provider. The Parent List is comprised of helpful resources in our community that have already been used by a parent experiencing similar concerns to you. Doctors, therapists, support groups, inpatient and outpatient programs, tutors, nutritionists, books and holistic medical approaches may all be reviewed on The Parent List.

Read existing Parent List reviews HERE.

Much like Angie’s List, The Parent List relies on consumer feedback. We need fresh reviews to keep the list current. Please consider leaving your own brief, anonymous review of a provider who made a positive difference in your child’s well-being on The Parent List.

Questions can be directed to:   parentlist@hcpto.org

In no way does the Hinsdale Central PTO, Hinsdale Central High School staff, school districts 86, 63 or 181 endorse or recommend any specific provider reviewed on The Parent List. The Parent List is a subjective forum set up by the Hinsdale Central PTO for your convenience. Parents and guardians are solely responsible for deciding to use any of the service providers on The Parent List in any capacity, and district 86, district 63, district 181 and the Hinsdale Central PTO disclaim all liability for any damages, injuries, losses, expenses, or claims of any kind arising out of the provision of services by anyone or any agency appearing on The Parent List.

If you’re a parent, you’ve had a moment–maybe many of them–when you’ve thought, “How did that conversation go so badly?” William Stixrud, Ph.D., and Ned Johnson have 60 years combined experience talking to kids one-on-one, and the most common question they get when out speaking to parents and educators is: What do you say? Johnson and Stixrud show how to engage in respectful and effective dialogue, suggest new ways to handle specific thorny topics, and provide a manual and map for communicating more effectively with your child.

This event is free and open to all. If you are interested in attending, please register in advance by using the registration links.

Mental Health Partnership with the Community House

News

Hinsdale Central Social Workers and the Community House have reestablished their partnership post-COVID to provide mental health services to Central students who have the need but not the means to afford the cost of counseling.

This program, the Insight Collaboration, was established years ago by a Central parent. The PTO is grateful for the generosity of our members to provide a grant to support this initiative. In order to continue to help as many in-need Central students, please consider donating to the Insight Collaboration. The link can be found HERE; designate Insight Collaboration.
