Donations Needed for Families Helping Families Committee

Eonju HwangNews

The Families Helping Families Committee at Hinsdale Central has been working with the Social Work Department since 2006 to support families at Central that need a helping hand. We are seeking monetary donations from the school community to help us meet these families’ needs. Your donation will help to provide Thanksgiving meals to families as well as to meet urgent needs as they arise, such as gas cards, clothing, etc.

Please consider donating by using the PTO online form and selecting “Families Helping Families” from the committee list.

Thank you for your generous support!

D86 & Panorama Education Family-School Relationship Survey

Eonju HwangNews

District 86 is partnering with Panorama Education again this year to administer feedback surveys to our students, faculty, staff and families that will help advance the work of our strategic plan. The one we are asking parents/guardians to complete between now and Nov. 16 is the District 86 Family-School Relationships Survey.

This survey, which features 59 questions and is estimated to take no longer than 20 minutes to complete, will cover several topics about your family’s needs and preferences, including:

  • Barriers to engagement
  • Communication
  • Family efficacy
  • Family support
  • Learning behaviors
  • Readiness for learning
  • School safety

Below are a few things to keep in mind about the survey and the process for completing it.

  • When answering questions, please focus your responses on the school as a whole instead of individual teachers/classes or the district.
  • If you have multiple students enrolled in the district, you can take the survey more than once by visiting https://surveys.panoramaed.com/hinsdale86 and using the access code that is specific to your child’s school (8599133854 for Hinsdale Central, 1633771611 for Hinsdale South and 2335790920 for the Transition Center). Please note, however, that you are not required to fill out a survey for each child.
  • You must complete the survey in one sitting. You cannot save your responses and finish it at another time. If you accidentally close the survey or get logged out before you complete it, you will need to start over.
  • Participation in this process is completely confidential. Panorama will not share your individual responses with the school or district.

In addition to sharing these tips, we want to provide a brief overview of how Panorama calculates the favorability percentages for questions and topics as a whole. These percentages reflect the total number of people who select answers to a question or for a topic that are viewed as positive or “favorable.” Below is a question from this survey that we will use to illustrate what we mean.

How confident are you in your ability to support your child’s learning at home?

  • Not confident at all
  • Slightly confident
  • Somewhat confident
  • Quite confident
  • Extremely confident

In this case, the favorability percentage would be based on the number of people who select the answers Quite Confident or Extremely Confident.

While the answer Somewhat Confident could be viewed as favorable or not favorable, Panorama does not factor it into the calculation. This type of answer, which you will see throughout the survey, is intended to avoid forced choice in the survey-taking process – i.e., when a respondent is required/forced to provide a specific answer (yes or no; I like it or don’t like it; etc.).

In closing, we want to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback with us. We also want to let you know that we will be using a variety of tools and resources (e.g., email, text messages and social media) to send you reminders about filling out the survey before it closes on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m.

To complete your survey, please look for your unique access link on the email from Panorama Education OR via the survey link and codes above.

If you have trouble accessing the online survey, please contact us at support+hinsdale86@panoramaed.com.

Warmly,
The Panorama Education Team

A Note from Principal Bill Walsh

PTO Conversations; Safety & Public Confidence Report
Thank you to the PTO for hosting a Conversation on Monday. The report by Principal Walsh, Director of Security Kurt Bluder and SRO Kevin Berland shed a light on how serious Hinsdale Central and D86 take safety and security so that our students and staff can focus on learning. Our strategic plan mission states “empowering students to pursue their ideal future by acquiring critical skills and knowledge to collaborate, create and connect with an ever-changing world”. For a child to learn, they must first feel safe. It is the goal of this team and our staff to provide an environment that meets the basic needs of our students so that they can learn, grow and lead. The report focused on Meeting the Needs, What to Expect Regarding Communication, Security Personnel, Security Equipment, Safety Measures, and the role of the Hinsdale Police Department Student Resource Officer.
Communication
For our communication protocol to be effective, we need our data to be accurate. Please make sure your phone number and email are updated with the school.
Lanyards & School IDs
Additionally, please consider having a conversation with your child about school safety. In particular, regarding the expectation that all students and staff must wear a D86-issued lanyard and their school ID. The building leadership team and the Red Devil staff are addressing this matter but it has been an uphill battle. The requirement of wearing the D86 lanyard and school ID is to take the simple step of assuring only Red Devils and authorized guests are on campus.
