Q3 Make a Difference Award Nominations

Eonju HwangNews

At Hinsdale Central, many teachers and staff members go above and beyond to engage students or provide extra support to others in our Red Devil community. They teach classes, advise clubs, coach teams, and provide services that “make a difference” at our school. If you know of a teacher or staff member whose dedication or kindness has had a positive and lasting impact on you or your student, please nominate them for a Make A Difference Award by completing the form found here. Please include an example of how the person you are nominating has made a difference when filling out the nomination form.

Anyone can make a nomination. Students will also receive this information directly via their school email. The PTO presents six Make A Difference Awards each quarter. The awards include our thanks with a personalized certificate and a $50 gift card.

Nominations received by Friday, March 17th, 2023 will be considered for the third quarter awards. You can view a list of recent Make A Difference Award recipients here.  If you have any questions, please contact Patty Pappas or Alice Waverley at makeadifference@hcpto.org

D86 5Essentials Survey

Eonju HwangNews

Parents across Illinois once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
  1. Visit 5 Essentials Survey Link
  2. Type and select “Dupage” as “County.” (The county is the location of the school district’s main office.)
  3. Type your school’s name into the “School” field and select your school.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.

Parents will have until March 31, 2023 to participate in the survey.

For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ reports, please visit https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.

Like to Write? Volunteer with the PTO!

Eonju HwangNews

The PTO is searching for a volunteer that is able to dedicate a few hours over the next few months to help with communication needs. Two specific items are the development of a welcome letter for new Members that outlines the benefits and resources provided by the PTO. The other is help with the proactive reach-out campaign to the PTOs at feeder middle schools during Freshman enrollment in May and providing them with information on how to enroll and get involved at Central!
